  • Property developers invest a total of 200 million euros in the MiKa-Quartier
  • Apartments likely to be ready for occupation from spring 2019

Dresden/Berlin, 29 September 2017. Things are kicking off in the MiKa-Quartier: construction work on the new city quarter in the Dresden district of Mickten has begun. Around 180 new apartments will initially be constructed in a total living area of approximately 14,800 square metres in the first construction phase between the flood channel and the Elbepark shopping centre by 2019. The first section of the three lots will above all contain rental apartments tailored towards families in Dresden.

The first apartments between Brockwitzer Straße and An der Elbaue are likely to be ready for occupation from spring 2019. The large-scale development is being implemented as a partnership model between Townscape One and the company Sassenscheidt GmbH & Co KG. The project company MiKa-Quartier GmbH & Co. KG has invested approximately 200 million euros in the plot, which covers a total area of four hectares.

Philipp Grabianowski, partner of the Townscape One Group and project manager of the MiKa project, explains, “We were granted planning permission in July 2017. We now want to quickly construct the three 5-storey buildings containing apartments with one to four rooms.”

Robert Weichert, spokesman of MiKa-Quartier GmbH & Co. KG, states, “Within the next six years, we want to add up to 900 apartments to the district, above all for young families.”

A high quality of life thanks to close proximity to the Elbe and excellent connections

‘I am pleased that apartments are being created and new life is being brought to an area that has already been accessible for a long time but not yet been put to use. The construction project plays an important role in urban development in the north of Dresden’, explains Raoul Schmidt-Lamontain, Dresden’s Senior Planning Officer. ‘Dresden is a growing city that needs new living space. I am pleased that the development here in Mickten is now also getting started.’

The city quarter north of the Kaditzer Flutrinne flood channel offers excellent connections thanks to local public transport and the nearby A4 motorway. Its close proximity to the Elbepark, Dresden’s largest shopping city, offers further advantages. An additional characteristic of the quarter will be the clever integration of the landscape by the river Elbe and the flood channel.

‘The MiKa project is adding value to the entire district by providing a harmonious expansion’, adds Stefan Szuggat, Head of Dresden’s City Planning Office. ‘Together with the other projects that will be realised in the immediate vicinity of the MiKa-Quartier in the near future, the development of the entire area is sure to be impressive.’

Family-friendly living as a principle

Plans are in place to construct both multi-storey residential buildings and townhouses on the total of three building lots of the MiKa-Quartier between Pieschener Straße, Brockwitzer Straße and Flößerstraße. All of the apartments will feature a balcony. The investors place high value on the principle of ‘family friendliness’ in the district, and as soon as construction work in the first lot has been completed, the newly created playground at the heart of the development will be opened to visitors. In addition to apartments, the new quarter will also contain a childcare centre and shops, as well as underground parking spaces for residents’ bicycles.
