  • Approx. 8,500-square-metre plot in Lutherstraße, Leipzig, for apartments and commercial units
  • Handover, including building permit, scheduled for around the turn of the year 2020/2021
  • Attractive location near Leipzig’s main train station

Leipzig, 10 November 2020: In a joint venture, the project developers TOWNSCAPE and SASSENSCHEIDT have sold an approx. 8,500-square-metre site in the heart of Leipzig’s city centre to BUWOG. For the residential and commercial plot at Lutherstraße 6/Atriumstraße, which has now been sold with building permit, 238 freehold apartments with a total of around 19,200 square metres of living space are being planned. The plans by RKW Architektur + also take into account seven commercial units on the first floor and around 160 parking spaces in the underground garage.

Eva Weiß, managing director of BUWOG Bauträger GmbH: “Positive economic development, falling unemployment and a constant influx of new residents make Leipzig attractive. We are therefore pleased to be able to support Leipzig’s further development on this site and to expand the range of available housing, deliberately with a balanced mix of apartments from one to five rooms, aimed at different target groups and generations. At the same time, creating residential space in the city centre is also an important contribution from a sustainability perspective as it reduces commuting times to and from work and travel to the city’s economic centres – such as the Congress Center Leipzig and Leipzig Trade Fair – in the long term.”

Other sustainable qualities of the project include green roofs and energy efficiency in compliance with the KfW 55 standard. In the underground parking garage, some of the parking spaces are also going to be dedicated to the operation of e-charging stations.

Sebastian Grabianowski, managing partner of Townscape, adds: “Leipzig is the fastest growing metropolis in Eastern Germany. The Lutherstraße site is the second project we have planned at this location. The city is a thriving economic centre and at the same time an attractive place to live. And these two aspects are harmoniously combined in the sold site.”

The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. In recent years, the Neuschönefeld district has developed into a colourful meeting place celebrating diversity with its unique mix of students, creative heads and people from a wide variety of different cultural backgrounds. Schools, day-care centres, retail and recreational facilities provide a good living environment for young families. In addition to its central location, the surrounding area is characterised by parks and green spaces such as the nearby Elsapark. Tram and bus stops in the direct vicinity ensure excellent public transport connections, and nearby Leipzig main station is also within walking distance.
