MiKa-Quartier Dresden
MiKa-Quartier Dresden

Dresden, 1 October 2015: Yesterday, representatives from the company MiKa-Quartier GmbH & Co. KG, a joint venture between the Townscape Group and Sassenscheidt GmbH & Co. KG, presented their project with the current working title ‘MiKa-Quartier’ at the 14th meeting of the Committee for Urban Development and Construction. In addition to introducing the stakeholders involved in the development, the representatives also presented the project on the whole. Plans are in place to construct approximately 180 apartments, some designed for young families, in the first construction phase by the end of 2017.

The development of the new city quarter is planned in an area north of the Kaditzer Flutrinne flood channel that already offers an excellent infrastructure. MiKa-Quartier GmbH & Co. KG purchased the building lots designated for the development from the Stuttgart-based Züblin Group, which also owns the neighbouring properties, in 2015. Plans are in place to construct approximately 180 apartments with a total living space of 15,500 m² in three 6-storey blocks in the first construction phase by the end of 2017. Both multi-storey residential buildings and townhouses are planned for the second construction phase. MiKa-Quartier GmbH & Co. KG aims to construct a total of up to 900 apartments on the three building lots over the next five to six years.

‘The MiKa-Quartier is characterised by the landscape by the river Elbe and the flood channel. The clever integration of this landscape will ensure a high quality of life and become the trademark of the quarter’, explains Erik Sassenscheidt, managing director of Sassenscheidt GmbH & Co. KG, who presented the project to the committee. The site already offers excellent connections to the local public transport network and the nearby A4 motorway. In addition, the Mickten district is already home to a comprehensive range of facilities for everyday needs, from a primary school to doctor’s surgeries and right through to the Elbepark, Dresden’s largest shopping centre.

The investors are pursuing an accelerated preliminary planning approval process for the development. ‘If the construction project is approved, the site, which has been ready for development since 2001, will have finally found its purpose. This will cover a good portion of the growing demand for apartments, which is also expected to increase in Dresden over the next few years’, summarises Henrik Sassenscheidt, managing partner of the Townscape Group. ‘For us, our entry into this attractive market in Dresden is a major challenge that we are excited to tackle.’
