Townscape Blog GROW

Last week, we publicly announced our acquisition of a new plot of land on 89 Ackerstraße. To mark the occasion, we have decided to introduce a new blog series. Named ‘Townscape Spotlights‘, the new column will focus on the districts that are home to our development projects.

We’ll be starting with the Brunnenviertel district in Berlin, which houses not only our new site but also two further Townscape projects – GROW and ENTER.

More than six years ago, when we acquired our first parcel of land here, it was love at first sight. Back then, it seemed time had stood still in the district. Despite being located in the heart of the city, the rushing tide of urban development appeared to have passed it by entirely. Nonetheless, we instantly recognised that the area had immense potential.

In recent years, the Brunnenviertel neighbourhood has blossomed and established a reputation for itself. That first plot of land, mentioned above, is now home to the GROW building, and is tenanted by Bonial and Knotel. Just around the corner, construction work on the ENTER building is nearing its conclusion. Two innovative start-ups – Contentful (software) and Merantix (AI) – are packed and ready to move in. Listed as industrial monuments, the former Siemens and AEG factories have metamorphosed into the Humboldthain Technology Park, uniting the industrial traditions of the 19th and 20th centuries with the technology of tomorrow. Today, the location already shines as a beacon for entrepreneurial initiative. Numerous research companies, start-ups and innovative media and culture businesses have settled in the district, drawing inspiration from the creative atmosphere that pervades the area and benefitting from the excellent transport network of Germany’s capital city. The new plot of land on 89 Ackerstraße is located just a short walk away from the ENTER building and can comfortably accommodate a building with a gross floor area of 4,000 m². We’re currently exploring various utilisation options. Once again, we plan to infuse the project with the neighbourhood’s innovative spirit.

Besides its economic significance, the district is also home to various cultural treasures. It’s surrounded by green areas such as Humboldthain Park, the North Railway Station Park and Mauer Park, where flea markets and events such as the Mauer Park karaoke regularly attract crowds of young people. Another exceptional location in the immediate vicinity is ‘BeachMitte‘ a modern sports venue and Europe’s largest inner-city beach. Dotted around the nearby Rosenthaler Platz are countless restaurants, bars and cafés, offering cuisine and entertainment in every colour of the rainbow. We’re delighted to have this opportunity of continuing our work in this exciting district and watching it flourish over the coming years.
